Deliciously crispy on the outside and sticky sweet on the inside, this honey garlic tofu is a quick and healthy vegetarian dish.
Ingredients

- 1 block Extra-Firm Tofu (about 14–16 ounces)
- 1/2 cup Cornstarch
- 1/4 cup Soy Sauce
- 2 tablespoons Rice Vinegar
- 1/4 cup Honey (or maple syrup/agave for vegan)
- 4–5 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Fresh Ginger, grated
- 1/2 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes (optional)
- 1 teaspoon Sesame Oil
- Cooking Oil (about 1/2 cup, for frying)
- Sesame Seeds (for garnish, optional)
- Green Onions (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Press the tofu: Drain and wrap the tofu in paper towels, placing a heavy object on top for at least 30 minutes.
- Prepare the tofu: Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes.
- Coat the tofu in cornstarch: Toss tofu cubes with cornstarch in a medium bowl.
- Prepare the honey garlic sauce: Whisk soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes in a small bowl.
- Fry the tofu until crispy: Heat cooking oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and fry tofu cubes until golden and crispy, about 5 to 7 minutes per side.
- Add tofu to the honey garlic sauce: Simmer the sauce in a skillet, then add the fried tofu.
- Coat the tofu in the sauce: Toss the crispy tofu in the sauce and cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes.
- Garnish and serve: Transfer the tofu to a serving dish and top with sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve hot.
Notes
Make sure to press the tofu well for maximum crispiness. Adjust the sauce ingredients to your taste preferences.
