Create Your Own Glowing Galaxy in a Jar: A Relaxing Craft for All Ages

Create your own glowing galaxy in a jar with just a few supplies and some creativity. It’s a mesmerizing, relaxing craft perfect for any age and a great way to add some dreamy vibes to your space.

Ingredients

  • Clear glass bottle with a lid (Mason jar or any clear jar)
  • Cotton balls
  • Glitter (silver or multicolor)
  • Food dye (for colorful layers)
  • Water
  • Glow-in-the-dark paint
  • Wooden stick, spoon, or stiff drinking straw
  • Cup of water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Base Layer: Fill the bottom of your jar with cotton balls until it’s about halfway full.
  2. Add Water & Color: Pour water over the cotton balls to saturate them, then add 2–3 drops of food coloring or a few squirts of glow-in-the-dark paint. Sprinkle in some glitter.
  3. Repeat the Layers: Continue adding layers of cotton balls, food coloring or paint, and glitter. Change colors each time to create a galaxy effect.
  4. Compact the Layers: After each layer, use a wooden stick or straw to gently press down the cotton balls to keep them compact.
  5. Seal It: Once the jar is full, screw the lid on tightly to seal your galaxy.

Notes

To refresh your galaxy jar, simply add more water and swirl it gently every few weeks. You can increase or decrease the glow intensity by adjusting the amount of glow-in-the-dark paint. This also works beautifully as a nightlight.
