Greek Chicken Gyros

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken breast
  • 4 pita breads
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetables for toppings (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix Greek yogurt, minced garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, oregano, salt, and pepper to create the marinade.
  2. Add the chicken to the marinade and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the grill or skillet over medium heat.
  4. Cook the marinated chicken for about 6-7 minutes on each side or until fully cooked.
  5. Remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it.
  6. Warm the pita breads in a skillet or oven.
  7. Assemble the gyros by placing slices of chicken in the pita and adding your choice of toppings.
  8. Serve with extra sauce if desired.

Notes

  1. Let the chicken rest after cooking to keep it juicy. Warm pita holds fillings better. Use dried oregano if fresh isn't available.
