- 2 pounds chicken breast
- 4 pita breads
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetables for toppings (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix Greek yogurt, minced garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, oregano, salt, and pepper to create the marinade.
- Add the chicken to the marinade and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the grill or skillet over medium heat.
- Cook the marinated chicken for about 6-7 minutes on each side or until fully cooked.
- Remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it.
- Warm the pita breads in a skillet or oven.
- Assemble the gyros by placing slices of chicken in the pita and adding your choice of toppings.
- Serve with extra sauce if desired.
Notes
Let the chicken rest after cooking to keep it juicy. Warm pita holds fillings better. Use dried oregano if fresh isn’t available.
