Teriyaki Tofu

Ingredients

  • 14 oz firm tofu, pressed and cubed
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 green onions, chopped for garnish
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture for at least 15 minutes, then cut it into cubes.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger until sugar dissolves.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and pan-fry tofu cubes until crispy on all sides, about 10-12 minutes.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch and water to create a slurry, then add it to the teriyaki sauce.
  5. Pour the sauce over the crispy tofu and stir to coat evenly.
  6. Cook for a few more minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  7. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds before serving, and enjoy immediately over rice or noodles.

Notes

  1. Press tofu to avoid soggy cubes. Adjust sauce ingredients to taste for a personalized flavor.
